I'm glad to see you getting started with some research questions. Starting with some historical inquiry is a fine idea. You should definitely be looking for some scholarly sources at this point; some things will come right up if you search on "boy bands" at http://scholar.google.com.
What have you been thinking about in terms of methodology? Are you still considering interviewing friends etc. about their responses to/memories of boy bands? You might also try searching for particular bands in MySpace/Facebook (to find fans, I mean -- though some bands could have sites of their own, too).
